Project Intro

In this design we are looking at what already exists in nature and our woods and how can we use this to build what we are envisioning. Our plan is to use as many things that are already offer to us on the land.

Seeds from native plants, fallen branches, saplings, etc. All of these things inform our decisions about working with this land and listening to what works with the landform but also what can be challenged or added. Another way this will happen is we are observing what already is thriving  on the land here. We have hazelnut trees, various wine grapes, and some existing apples trees. We will propagate from these plants to build out the fruiting plants in this space. This will give us resilient plants to existing climate and lower costs needed to build this resilient system design can succeed even under HOA restrictions.

The clients, a young couple, wanted to cut their water bill in half, reduce their turfgrass while keeping gathering space, replace high-input lawn with natives, and grow food in abundance. The design achieves all four goals while creating a landscape that is beautiful, compliant, and productive.

"The hope is we look at the forest, mimic it, bring in more crop harvests to diversify crop offerings for struggling farmers, and lower our need for chemical usage, tillage, and add work for weeding, mowing, etc."
