Gloria Flora
Introduction
Gloria directs Sustainable Obtainable Solutions (SOS), a non-profit ensuring the sustainability of public lands which she founded after 23 years in US Forest Service leadership. She’s on the founding board of the Permaculture Land Trust, works part-time with PINA as Philanthropy Coordinator, and serves on four other Boards in regenerative agriculture, protection from inappropriate energy and mining, and forest collaboration. She’s an expert practitioner, consultant, and speaker on large landscape conservation strategies, climate change action, collaboration, biochar, environmental issues, and permaculture.
Gloria and her husband Marc, also a permaculturist, created and steward TerraFlora Permaculture Learning Center in northeast Washington, a 65-acre forested permaculture homestead. TerraFlora developed and promotes the practice of sylvanculture: living harmoniously in mutual support with the forest and all its lifeforms, and enhancing ecosystem services. TerraFlora demonstrates a broad spectrum of agroforestry applications; forest restoration and resilience practices; sustainable biochar production and use; polycultures and guilds blending native and domestic annuals and perennials, livestock integration, nutrient dense foods, medicinal plants and unusual fruits.
Gloria originated and writes Plant Profiles, a regular column in Permaculture Design Magazine as well as contributing articles.
