❓ FAQ for Teachers and Students
Q: What is the Submission Period?
A: Designs can be submitted between Aug 15, 2025 thru Oct 15, 2025.
Q: Who can enter the New Designer track?
A: Anyone who completed a Permaculture Design Course between Jan 1, 2024 and Oct 15, 2025.
Q: Can a group submit one design?
A: Yes, just note all team members in the submission form.
Q: Do students need a polished portfolio?
A: No—just a clear, thought-out design that uses permaculture principles.
Q: What format should the design be in?
A: PDF, slideshow, or design map with written or video explanation.
Q: Can students win both tracks?
A: Yes—All submissions will be considered for both the New Designer or Experienced Designer track.
Q: How will the prize money be awarded?
A: Award money will be paid to implement the design based on the budget submitted. The prize money for the Biochar track will be awarded in stages: $5,000 upon winning, with the remaining $2500 distributed after the work is completed and social media–friendly video content is submitted showcasing the project. The New Designer track will follow a similar pattern, with $1500 awarded upfront and the remaining $1000 awarded upon completion with social media–friendly video content is submitted showcasing the project. Subsequent revision or deviation of 10% or more from the budget submitted is subject to approval by PINA.

The Permaculture Design Contest 2025
The Permaculture Design Contest is a way for us to highlight the important work that Permaculture Professionals are engaged in every day.
By holding an annual contest we can ensure designers get more publicity for the work they’re involved in as well as funding to make those projects a reality.
