2024 Permaculture Design Contest: Rules, Dates, Terms and Conditions

Contest Rules

1. Must be a fully paid PINA Member and a graduate of a Permaculture Design Course to submit an entry. Become a member!
   
2. All design submissions will be reviewed by a panel of experts convened by the Permaculture Institute of North America (PINA).
3. All design submissions must be from within North America and Hawaii to be considered eligible. 
4. All submissions will be eligible for the $5,000 Grand Prize. 
5. PINA Members will vote online to select the grand prize winner.
6. Only logged-in members may vote, including Students & Volunteers, Practitioners & Allies, Diplomates & Professionals, as well as Allied Organizations and Regional Hubs. Group members may only cast one vote.
7. To vote, Members must be current in dues through November 15, 2024 – update your payment information in the Member Portal!
8. Votes may not be changed once cast.
9. Voting will be on the website. If you have a problem voting, please contact communications@pina.in
10. If there is a tie for first place, PINA will divide the prize between the top two contestants.
11. PINA is the final arbiter of the Contest rules and any disputes thereunder and has sole discretion to accept or reject any ballot or entry.
12. Award money will be paid to implement the design based on the budget submitted. Subsequent revision or deviation of 10% or more from the budget submitted is subject to approval by PINA.

August 15, 2024 – Submissions open
October 15, 2024 at 11:59pm Pacific Time – Submissions close
November 15, 2024 – PINA announces the Top Five (5) designs.
November 16, 2024 – Online Voting begins at pina.in/pina-design-contest/
November 22, 2024 @ 8pm ET, 7pm CT, 6pm MT, 5pm PT – Online panel for Top Five New Designer Award Finalists to describe their designs
December 15, 2024 at 11:59pm PT – online voting ends
December 16, 2024 – winners announced 

Terms and Conditions

The following terms are set forth by the Permaculture Institute of North America (PINA) for the 2024 Permaculture Design Contest. By submitting an entry to PINA, I hereby grant PINA a worldwide, royalty-free, unlimited term license to publicize and otherwise use the material and information that I provide for non-commercial purposes in support of PINA’s non-profit mission to promote permaculture. I will retain copyright in any original materials, text, or graphics that are not in the public domain. By submitting an entry, I warrant to PINA that I am the creator of the design submitted and that I have permission to publish any materials I provide to PINA. By submitting an entry, I also agree to cooperate with PINA to publicize the project of which my design is a representation, if selected as a Top Five Finalist to describe my design in an online panel November 22, 2024 @ 8pm ET, 7pm CT, 6pm MT, 5pm PT or to send a video recording, to apply any award monies granted to me to implement the project shown in the design, and to allow PINA, its agents and members of the press access to the site of the design, at agreed upon times, in order to document the work supported by the award.
