Job Description:

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Permaculture Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in permaculture design and implementation, an understanding of ecological systems, and a commitment to sustainable agriculture. The Permaculture Specialist will work closely with our team to develop, implement, and manage permaculture projects, as well as oversee maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • – Design and implement permaculture systems for a variety of scales and contexts, including urban gardens, homestead farming, and community spaces.
  • – Conduct site assessments to evaluate soil health, water resources, and existing ecosystems.
  • – Collaborate with our Soil Team to develop and execute plans for soil regeneration, water management, and biodiversity enhancement.
  • – Provide education and training to staff, volunteers, and community members on permaculture principles and practices.
  • – Monitor and evaluate the success of permaculture projects, making adjustments as necessary.
  • – Collaborate with other departments to integrate permaculture principles into broader organizational goals.
  • – Stay up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in permaculture and sustainable agriculture.

Qualifications:

  • – Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Agriculture, Ecology, related field or considerable working experience. Relevant certifications in permaculture design (e.g., PDC) are highly desirable.
  • – Minimum of 3 years of experience in permaculture design and implementation.
  • – Knowledge of soil science, plant ecology, and sustainable agriculture practices are ideal
  • – Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are preferred.
  • – Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and inspire others strongly desired.
  • – Experience working with diverse communities and an understanding of the social aspects of permaculture.
  • – Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor as needed.
