Membership & Outreach Coordinator – Maui County

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and reliable Membership & Outreach
Coordinator to support the growth, engagement, and communication efforts across Maui
County’s chapters: Lahaina, Mauna Kahalawai, Haleakalā, Hāna, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi. This role
will focus on engaging HFU Maui County chapter memberships, managing graphic creation,
supporting social media / event promotion, conducting volunteer recruitment, and creating
educational resources for leadership across these six chapters. The ideal candidate should have
access to a laptop and reliable internet and be passionate about local agriculture, community
building, storytelling and digital engagement. Reports to: Outreach Director.

Key Responsibilities:
• Membership Growth and Support:
o Educate/Assist chapters with phone outreach and email campaigns to engage
current members, encourage renewals, and recruit new members.
o Assist in answering manual membership forms and inquiries promptly and
accurately.
o Support chapter leaders in filling volunteer roles to grow their chapter teams.
o Provide guidance and resources to chapter leaders on recruiting and retaining
volunteers.
• Social Media and Graphics:
o Support HFU’s social media strategy for the state page and Maui County
chapters, using pre-approved content and templates.
o Create graphics and promotional materials for chapter events and educational
webinars, ensuring alignment with HFU branding.

• Administrative and Communication Support:
o Regularly update the Outreach Director on outreach efforts weekly.

o Maintain an organized system for tracking chapter events, volunteer
opportunities, and outreach initiatives.

• Event Promotion and Support:
o Collaborate with chapter leaders to gather and confirm event details.
o Ensure events are communicated to the Outreach Director for inclusion in
newsletters and the event calendar.
o Promote events through social media, graphics, and direct outreach via
newsletter one week before and day of to maximize attendance.

• Educational Resource Development:
o Help develop and promote media and resources for webinars and workshops
that chapters can use to enhance outreach efforts for chapter leaders.
o Assist in creating chapter educational materials on topics such as hosting events,
recruiting members, and effective outreach strategies.

Goals
• Increase membership and engagement across Maui County chapters.
• Support consistent and impactful event promotion and volunteer recruitment.
• Strengthen communication between Maui County chapters and the state-level
organization.
• Develop educational resources to empower Maui County chapters in outreach and
events.

Work Environment:
• Remote position with flexibility, but Maui County residency is preferred.
• Must have access to a laptop and reliable internet connection.
• Occasional in-person attendance at chapter meetings and events.
• Collaborative work environment with frequent virtual communication.
Qualifications:
• Education:
o High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in
Communication, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Forestry, or a related field
preferred.
• Physical Requirements:
o Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
o Ability to lift and carry materials (up to 25 lbs) for event setup if needed.
• Certifications:
o Valid ID; Driver’s license preferred.

• Location:
o Maui Island based candidates preferred, open to remote candidates across Maui
County
• Experience:
o Experience in membership outreach, volunteer coordination, or community
engagement.
o Background in social media management and content creation, preferably
for nonprofit or community-based organizations.
o Event promotion and coordination experience.
o Experience working with grassroots organizations or agricultural
communities is a plus.

• Skills:
o Strong written and verbal communication skills
o Proficiency in social media platforms (Meta, Instagram, Facebook) and
content creation tools (e.g., Canva).
o Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
o Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
o Knowledge of email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp) is a plus.
o Ability to work independently while aligning with statewide strategies.
o Passion for local agriculture, community building, and digital engagement.
o Strong communication skills for working with team members, community
groups, and stakeholders.
o Self-motivated and capable of working independently remote while adhering to
state-level strategies.

Travel: Occasional travel within Maui County for chapter events and meetings.
Compensation: Starting pay $25/hour at 10 hours/week – Part-Time (40 hours per month)
