Permaculture Education Series

Class #1 – Introduction to Permaculture
This class will explore permaculture, a design system focused on holistic and regenerative living, as it applies to gardening and land-use. It will define and explain permaculture; discuss its principles and ideas; and introduce the concepts and methods helpful for using permaculture to maximize your own site, whether that is a small grouping of plants in a container or an entire property.
**Handouts will include a list of some helpful permaculture resources, including local resources; permaculture principles; and the first of three planning worksheets to help you get started on your own permaculture design.
Class #2: Permaculture Toolkit and Techniques
The second in our three-part permaculture series takes a deeper look at some of the tools used in permaculture design (like natural patterns, charting elements, and stacking functions), and techniques used for mapping the landscape and identifying microclimates. This session will offer the opportunity to put some of these techniques and tools to use in a hands-on way.
**Handouts will include information about what some common weeds can tell us about growing conditions; the characteristics of certain directional microclimates (north-facing, south-facing, etc.); and the second of three planning worksheets to further your design. Paper for mapping will also be provided.
Class #3: Permaculture Practical Application
The final class in our series offers time to design! Bring a map of your site (made utilizing the information in the first two sessions) and work on it with the help of your classmates and teacher.
Permaculture books, cards, and various planning aids will be provided for use during the session.
Attendees at this session will receive the final batch of planning worksheets, including information about implementing and maintaining your permaculture design. You will also receive a selection of seeds with planting instructions.
